Posture & Pirouette
The Franklin Method®
Bea Glendenning (Franklin Method Educator)
Sophie Louise Briggs (Dance Educator)
Posture and Pirouette with The Franklin Method® is a workshop tailored to dancers (age 15 and up) and dance educators with a passion for exploring new and innovative ways of helping themselves, and their students, achieve their movement goals. This 3-hour workshop will provide advanced mental and anatomical knowledge of how to personally image, and verbally cue, movement within the body to achieve balanced posture and an effortless pirouette. Here’s what’s being said about this workshop:
“The Franklin Method taught this way has clear potential to transform awareness and perception of movement and anatomy, maximise function and minimize injury. It has applications in all human movement disciplines and practices from the athlete to the civilian walking, from injury prevention to maximising economical function and energy use. It is astounding that it is not more widely taught in dance training. Perhaps the Franklin Method heralds a revolution in dance training that will create more intelligent teachers and dancers.”
Come and be a part of the Franklin Method revolution! You’ll learn:
Postural placement for balanced turns
Bea will guide you through how to achieve balanced standing posture through finding your central axis. Sophie will then apply this understanding to the teaching of chaînés and how to feel, and cue, spinning on your central axis.
Shoulder function for core integration and an effortless pirouette
Bea will introduce the movement anatomy of the shoulder and connect this understanding to efficient function of the pelvis. This will layer a deeper understanding of how the shoulders and pelvis move in unison to create dynamic alignment. Sophie will follow on with how to directly apply this experience to powering pirouette.
Foot placement for powerful pivot
Understanding how the shoulders, hips and feet move to balance themselves is central to creating a powerful supporting leg to turn on. Bea will introduce the movement anatomy of the foot, and layer this understanding with the insights gained into pelvic and hip function at ‘Pelvis & Plié’. Sophie will then complete the picture of how to cue the whole body to spin with balanced efficiency.
Prepare to leave inspired to get yourself and your students spinning 🙂
NB: This is a stand-alone workshop, even though it will make reference to material covered in ‘Pelvis & Plié’, attendance is open to everyone.
